2004 GTOAA Nationals: Pontiac Performance Drive
The Pontiac Performance Drive was put on at the Silverdome by Pontiac and the Bondurant School of Driving for all conventioners.
In my opinion, this was easily the coolest thing I have ever seen a car company do for their loyal fans. Conventioners were able to drive abuse a slew of new
Pontiacs including Automatic & 6-Speed GTO's, a Grand Prix GTP, a Bonneville GXP, a Vibe, and a Grand Am. Drivers were turned loose on a couse that allowed a
0-50 sprint, a number of corners, a slalom and rumble pad do demonstrate the cars' ability. Conventioners were also invited to ride along in an 2004 6-Speed GTO
with instructors from Bob Bondurant's School through a very fast and very impressive course. Imagine going 80MPH straight at a chain link fence then a little chicane causing a 4-wheel slide,
all the while the driver talking to you about the car as if it were a freeway commute -- thats fun! Finally, the Bondurant guys put on a drifting demonstration that was not to be believed.
An unbadged, early production G6 was also on display, although somehow we didn't come away with photos. A complimentary barbecue and Pontiac sales literature were also provided.
